Finally got a call back. I have an interview Saturday morning for the manager position at an indenpendent book store her in Boston. Well, it's right outside of Boston. Fingers crossed.

Thanks to an hour delay on the T today, I was able to finish Hilary Mantel's Fludd. I'm not quite sure if I'm going to write about it yet. And I don't know if it has inspired me to read anything else by Mantel. It was a decent, short book, but I'm going to sleep on it until I pass any more judgement on it.

I'm trying to decide what book to lend my friend, the one who hated Case Histories and who struggled through Sarah Hall's The Electric Michelangelo. However, I talked enough about Coetzee's Disgrace that she finally borrowed it and really liked it. Now, what to do...

Just read:
Hilary Mantel Fludd

Now reading:
Umberto Eco The Name of the Rose

On deck:
Margaret Atwood The Blind Assassin

Good luck with the interview! I worked in a very cool independent (now defunct) bookstore here in Omaha--where I literally waited on the likes of Barry Manilow, Swoozy Kurtz, and Jackson Browne! It was in a hip part of Omaha--and I really miss it! By the way, I love Margaret Atwood and The Blind Assassin is one of my favorite books by her!!

Hi - Came here via Danielle's blog. I just had to pipe in and say that I love Disgrace. It's got to be one of my all time favorite books. How are you enjoying Name of the Rose?

And, yes, best of luck on the interview.

Thank you! I work full-time in publishing, but I don't feel fulfilled, so I've been looking. I want to teach, but managing a small bookstore may not be all that bad.

Hi Iliana, thanks for dropping by. I discovered Coetzee last year and have read Disgrace and Elizabeth Costello. But I can't wait to read more. He's incredible.
I'm 35 pages into Name of the Rose and so far it's pretty good. Of course, I keep thinking of Christian Slater and Seac Connery, but that'll pass.

Mike, add my good-luck to everyone else's. Sounds like a great job.

I used to love getting stuck on the T. I don't know how many times I got into work an hour late (and fifty pages into my book!) with the only acceptable excuse - "but the train got stopped outside Kenmore! We sat there for forty minutes!" Good times...

Ella, I love Boston and I really don't have any motivation to move anywhere else, but I could certainly live without the traffic and the T when it decides to shut down during rush hour.

Just another reason why I'm thankful that I'm a reader. I wasn't on my cell phone cursing the delay. I was deep in a book. Oh yeah, thanks for iPods too!
